Although neither the right to citizenship nor the right to renounce citizenship is guaranteed as such by the Convention or its Protocols, the Court has held in a number of cases that the following actions may, in certain circumstances, raise an issue under Article 8 of the Convention because of their impact on the private life of the individual: arbitrary denial of citizenship (see Karassev v. Since the Convention guarantees no right to nationality, the question whether a person was denied a State's nationality arbitrarily in a way susceptible of raising an issue under the Convention is to be determined with reference to the terms of the domestic law (for a recapitulation of the relevant case-law see Kuric and Others v.
