    On 10 December 2000 the applicant was arrested by the Georgian police in Tbilisi on the basis of Article 61 of the Convention on Legal Assistance and Legal Relations in Civil, Family and Criminal Matters of 22 January 1993 (see Shamayev and Others v. Georgia and Russia, no. 36378/02, § 266, ECHR 2005-III) in relation to the criminal proceedings pending against him in Russia and for the consequent purpose of his extradition there.
