In particular, if a detainee is a party to a civil dispute and expresses a wish to attend a hearing, according to the Court's approach, it is incumbent on the domestic judicial authorities (1) to assess whether the nature of the dispute requires his or her personal presence and (2) to put in place procedural arrangements aiming at guaranteeing his or her effective participation in the proceedings (see Yevdokimov and Others v. Russia, nos. 27236/05 and 10 others, §§ 33- 48, 16 February 2016).
